We’re Allie and Jack, and we’ve never let having a baby stop us travelling.
I’m Allie, a senior marketing director with 15 years of experience at some of the UK’s biggest brands, and the person behind Little Brits Abroad. Jack is my husband, co-pilot and the person who always finds the best parking spot. Together we’re raising R, our son, and writing up the trips we take as a family, with the practical detail we wished we’d had before booking.
Little Brits Abroad exists because when I was pregnant, the internet was full of advice about whether to travel with a baby, and almost nothing useful about where to go. We’ve now taken R to more destinations than we can count across the UK, Europe and the US, starting with a trip to Norway when he was just a few weeks old.
How we write our guides
Most of our destination guides, hotel reviews and itineraries are based on trips we’ve taken ourselves. That’s where the small details come from: whether a walk works with a buggy, which activities suit a toddler, how easy it is to get around and where we’d stay next time. Some of our broader planning and comparison guides also draw on research. When a recommendation comes from research rather than a visit, we say so. And if something didn’t work for us, I’ll tell you.
Where we’ve been
We’ve taken R to destinations including Mallorca, Norway, Florida, the Scottish Highlands, Cape Cod, Montreal and Washington DC, at ages from a few weeks old to 20 months. We’ve tested long-haul flights, European city breaks, road trips, all-inclusive resorts and villa holidays.
We rate every destination across four areas: getting there, pramability, adult fun factor and cost. It’s a scoring system built from what we look for as parents, because the things that make or break a family trip are rarely the things everyday travel guides focus on.
